We built a hotel website with a system for managing rooms and prices, and an online payment checkout.

Behind a staff login, the same site runs the property. Staff work from a board of every room and move each one through the day: available, booked, occupied, checked out, cleaning, then available again. The nightly price is edited on that screen and is the final figure a guest pays, tax included.

A booking can be assigned to a room, moved to a different room in the middle of a stay, or cancelled, and two live bookings can never hold the same room. Guests pay for the stay when they book. The amount is worked out on the server from the room and the dates, never taken from the browser, and the price is stored on the booking so a later price change cannot rewrite what someone already paid.
